An alkaloid isolated from Uncaria sinensis. It is one of the active components that protect against glutamate-induced neuronal death in cultured cerebellar granule cells by inhibition of Ca2 influx. Also found to reduce epileptic seizures. It inhibits apoptosis induced by dopamine in NT2 neurons.
