Human recombinant BTC produced in E.coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 101 amino acids (32-111) and having a molecular mass of 11.3 kDa. BTC is fused to a 21 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus. Btc is a potent mitogen for retinal pigment epithelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. The effects of betacellulin are probably mediated by the egf receptor and other related receptors.
