Human albumin or serum albumin is encoded by the ALB gene and is the most abundant plasma protein in mammals. Human albumin is essential for maintaining the osmotic pressure needed for proper distribution of body fluids between intravascular compartments and body tissues. Human albumin also acts as a plasma carrier by non-specifically binding several hydrophobic steroid hormones and as a transport protein for hemin and fatty acids. Too much serum albumin in the body can be harmful. Applications: Suitable for use as a control or standard and as an antigen or ligand in immunological assays. Also suitable for conjugation. Purity: >98%, Total Protein (5%): As Reported, pH: As Reported, Sodium (5%): As Reported, Potassium (5%): As Reported, Chloride (5%): As Reported, Calcium (5%): As Reported, Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4°C. Stable for 6 months after receipt at 4°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
