Ribosomal protein S6 (RPS6) is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomes are composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit that function to catalyze protein synthesis. RPS6 is phosphorylated by many cellular kinases including ribosomal protein S6 kinase that is regulated via the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. RPS6 has been demonstrated to be important in regulating cell size, glucose homeostasis, and translational control of mRNA. Alternate names for RPS6 include 40S ribosomal protein S6, and phosphoprotein NP33. Immunogen: synthetic peptide. The epitope recognized by IHC-00442 maps to a region between residue 200 and the C-terminus (residue 249) of human Ribosomal Protein S6 using the numbering given in entry NP_001001.2 (GeneID 6194).
